With the Female Hormone Health Check we use 3 saliva samples to measure:
1) Progesterone (1x)
2) Estradiol (1x)
3) DHEA (1x)
4) Cortisol (1x)
5) Testosterone (1x)
Hormonal imbalances, such as estrogen dominance, can often be the cause of menstrual or menopausal symptoms, as well as various other symptoms such as hair loss, skin problems or chronic fatigue.
Who should take the test?
Are you thinking about starting a family? Concerned about infertility? Perhaps you are approaching menopause and want to better understand your hormone levels during this change?
Testing hormones is a critical step in understanding a woman’s reproductive and general health. Libido, menstruation, fertility, and metabolism can be impacted by your hormone levels. Our Female Hormone Health Check gives a broad overview for women suffering cycle disorders and hormonal complaints.
How does it work?
Once your order has been processed, you will be sent a sample collection kit. You collect your sample from the comfort of your own home and send it right back to Verisana partner laboratory. The test analyzes the morning value of the hormones in saliva sample. The lab will provide you with your level of each hormone and whether your level falls within the reference ranges for your age.
How long will it take to receive my findings? What will my results tell me?
Your results will provide detailed information about whether your estradiol, testosterone, progesterone, DHEA and cortisol levels are normal, low, or high compared to reference ranges in your age group. You can then discuss the results with your doctor or health practitioner, who can give you further guidance and treatment recommendations.
How is my privacy protected?
Samples for our tests are collected in the privacy of your own home. Both we and Verisana partner laboratories take customer privacy very seriously.
You will be the sole person with access to this information, and we guarantee that we will not disclose your information to any unauthorized third parties. Additionally, all samples will be disposed of after analysis.
Estradiol and Progesterone
Estrogens are the most important of the female sex hormones. In women, estrogen is mainly produced by the ovaries. Estrogen is actually made up of a group of hormones, but Estradiol is biologically the most active during the fertile years of women. It is responsible for:
Estrogen levels exhibit fluctuations throughout a woman’s life, extending beyond the menstrual cycle.
Progesterone is produced by the ovaries after ovulation to prepare the uterus for possible pregnancy and to protect the endometrium of the uterus. Together with estrogen, progesterone participates in the regulation of the menstrual cycle.
Physical complaints are caused by both estrogen deficiency and excess production. One of the most common causes of hormonal imbalance is estrogen dominance and low progesterone levels. An excess of estrogen, known as estrogen dominance, can also lead to a range of undesirable symptoms, including water retention, nausea, mood swings, fatigue, lethargy, reduced concentration, anxiety, breast sensitivity, cysts, fibroids, painful menstruation, and weight gain.
DHEA and Cortisol
Cortisol and DHEA are both synthesized within the adrenal glands. Cortisol, aside from adrenaline, is the most pivotal stress hormone. It mobilizes energy reserves, priming the body for either “fight” or “flight” in scenarios involving intense physical exertion, competitive sports, psychological stress, physical strain, mental stress, or severe illness.
Both cortisol and DHEA also play crucial roles in various metabolic processes. DHEA serves as a precursor to testosterone and estradiol. DHEA is important for bone, muscle and skin health, also plays an important role in maintaining libido in both women and men.
Testosterone
Testosterone is a sex hormone that is mainly associated with men – after all, it is also found in the body of women. The role of testosterone in a woman's body is quite diverse - it helps to produce new blood cells, maintain bone health, increase libido. Women tend to have low testosterone levels. Signs of high testosterone levels in women: excessive hair growth, irregular periods, acne. liigne karvakasv, ebaregulaarne menstruatsioon, akne.
